Humo Arena
Discover a state-of-the-art sports complex in the heart of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Humo Arena is one of the country’s largest facilities for indoor winter sport events, with capacity for 12,500 spectators around a vast ice rink. Take a spin with us as we explore this magnificent new arena, which relies extensively on Reynaers Aluminium’s high-insulation curtain walls and ConceptSystem 77 door solutions.
The futuristic Humo Arena complex covers over 97,000 square metres and counts five floors, several of which featuring curtain wall glazing. The arena’s total area of façade glazing equals 6,000 square metres, the equivalent of about 23 tennis courts! Igor Koufonin, architect for the ARENA Design Institute, notes the importance of this prestigious project: “The shape, concept, and materials of the arena’s façades show that the city has a new world-class facility, which decorates the centre and highlights the progressive architecture of Tashkent.”
The centrepiece ice rink is intended mainly for ice hockey or skating, yet this multifunctional space can be rapidly converted for other popular sports or entertainment events. But if you are not interested in spectacular music concerts or basketball games that put you on the edge of your seat, you can find an exquisite restaurant, multiple gyms, and a sports museum in the immediate vicinity of the Arena.
The shape, concept, and materials of Humo Arena’s façades show that Tashkent has a new world-class stadium.
Architecture inspired by myths
In a world of look-alike stadiums with little character, Humo Arena stands out with its elegantly rounded sides made of gleaming steel, aluminium, and glass. Project designers based their concept on the image of the mythical Humo bird, which is said to bring great fortune. “The arena’s façades are designed in a modern architectural style, using high-tech aluminium façade and roofing systems,” remarks Igor Koufonin. The architect adds that the key to create a modern sports arena with big glass façades were several Reynaers Aluminium systems.
