The Brouwhuis

Oisterwijk - The Netherlands - 2015

The Brouwhuis is a contemporary residence that blends effortlessly into its woody surroundings in the south of the Netherlands. Inspired by the inconspicuous barn that once stood nearby, architect Jacq. De Brouwer combined dark wood and large glass surfaces to create an open yet private home. Experience how nature and sleek design come closer than ever before thanks to the slim aluminium profiles of Reynaers Aluminium (sliding) windows and curtain wall solutions.

So what makes this modestly proportioned yet highly comfortable home so special? As its owners were seeking a cosy new home for two, the Brouwhuis had to feature quality design in every detail, without losing its original connection to the environment. Jacq. De Brouwer, project architect at Bedaux de Brouwer Architecten, took on the challenge: “The house truly embodies what I stand for, which is relating a building to its environment to give it an air of timelessness.”

When spotting the Brouwhuis from various corners, you can hardly miss the contrast between the house’s two long sides. The wall overlooking the road is mainly a closed black surface, apart from a welcoming glass entrance. However, the other side is almost completely transparent thanks to the many windows and slim aluminium profiles by Reynaers Aluminium. The homeowners enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the surrounding forest, all in full privacy.

The Brouwhuis’ interior features impressive wooden beams that add to the home’s sleek yet intimate design.

A vast view through expansive windows

Clad in black stained planks, the Brouwhuis is a further nod to the former barn on the site. Wood is a key feature of the interior too, as hefty beams and slats support the roof and skylight to give the home its intimate, cosy look and feel. To cope with the atypically small living surface, a combination of glass and aluminium in the backside walls really give you a sense of unlimited openness. ConceptSystem 77 windows and a ConceptWall 50 curtain wall solution, both known for their slim profiles, let a maximum of sunlight flood indoors all day long.

The house truly embodies what I stand for: it will last a long time and it keeps its value.

All Reynaers Aluminium systems featured in the Brouwhuis are set in triple-glazed panes, in order to minimise chilly downdraughts typical to the project’s woody location. So is our highly insulated ConceptPatio 130-Lift & Slide (LS) system, which provides unrivalled transparency for the homeowners to enjoy. A matte coating makes the aluminium elements blend in with the wooden façade even more, giving it a contemporary steel-like look.

Where once stood a discreet old barn, now lies a light yet intimate home-for-two that respects the Dutch greenery that surrounds it. The Brouwhuis truly is a one-of-a-kind cabin in the woods that combines high-quality design and warm cosiness in spectacular fashion.
